Press Release: Democratic Delegate Candidate Irene Shin Responds to Opponent’s Extreme Insults Targeting LGBTQ+ and Trans Students

HERNDON, Va. – Today, the Democratic Nominee for House of Delegates District 86 Irene Shin releases the following statement:

“Julie Perry’s blatant trans-phobic, anti-LGBTQ+ statements are just another example of how she demeans and marginalizes others. Sadly, this is part of a continued right-wing extremist record from Perry, and voters should not be surprised that this time she took aim at some of the most vulnerable students in school.

“When we allow candidates for public office like Julie Perry to demean the LGBTQ+, and especially trans communities, we are establishing a standard that this kind of insulting discrimination is acceptable in our society. I reject this. We need to stand up for our students and ensure that our schools are safe and affirming learning environments for everyone. Extreme, right-wing politicians like Julie Perry are unfit to hold office.”
