Happy Women’s History Month! + Town Hall Invitation

I hope you are finding some good opportunities to get outside and enjoy the sunshine as the weather gets warmer and as the spring flowers start to bloom! As we mark the beginning of Women’s History Month, I wanted to highlight some great programming being planned by Fairfax County, including movie showings, story times, STEAM activities for kids and history presentations. More information here!

I would also like to take this opportunity to invite you to join me, alongside Senator Jennifer Boysko and Delegate Karen Keys-Gamarra, for a 2025 Legislative Update Town Hall on Tuesday, March 18th from 6:30pm-8:00pm in Reston. Please RSVP using this link

Whether or not you are able to attend the town hall next Wednesday, I want to know what’s on your mind as the dust settles on the 2025 General Assembly Session! Please never hesitate to reply to one of these emails or to reach out directly. My team and I can be reached at delishin@house.virginia.gov or 703-677-8334.

Legislative Update

Procedurally, each of the 836 bills that made it through both chambers are now awaiting action from the Governor. The Governor has until Monday, March 24 to either sign, veto or amend each bill. The General Assembly will then come back together on Wednesday, April 2 for “Reconvene Session” to vote on any Governor amendments or vetoes.

In the meantime, our work continues. Just this week I was back in Richmond for a meeting of the Virginia Advisory Committee Sexual and Domestic Violence. We heard updates from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, the Virginia Department of Health, the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, and the Virginia Department of Social Services. We discussed ongoing work around language access of support services for victims of sexual and domestic violence as well as the outcomes of the 2025 General Assembly Session and the anticipated impacts that the recent federal actions will have on victim support services in the Commonwealth. Alongside my colleague from Arlington, Senator Barbara Favola, I am looking forward to following up with administration officials to ensure that we are maintaining the full range of existing victim support services even in the face of a loss of federal funding.
