January Newsletter
Happy New Year, and welcome to my e-newsletter!
My name is Irene Shin, and I am honored to represent the 8th district in the Virginia House of Delegates. The 8th district sits wholly inside Fairfax County and includes the Town of Herndon as well as parts of Chantilly and Fairfax.
Over the years, I have come to know and truly love our community. From all of the great outdoor offerings, such as the W&OD Trail and Frying Pan Farm Park, to the richly diverse small businesses like Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern and the Desi Breakfast Club, our little corner of the Commonwealth has so much to offer.
During my tenure in the House of Delegates, I have worked to expand voting rights, increase access to affordable healthcare, reform the criminal justice system, strengthen consumer protections, and make our communities safer.
The Virginia legislature meets part-time, which means the General Assembly is typically in session from January to late February or early March every year. The 2025 General Assembly Session is scheduled to start next Wednesday, January 8th at noon and we are expected to conclude on or around Saturday, February 22nd.
I am proud to sit on the following legislative committees:
The House Committee on Communications, Technology and Innovation (where I serve as Vice Chair);
The House Committee on Counties, Cities and Towns (where I serve as a Subcommittee Chair);
The House Committee on Health and Human Resources; and
The House Committee on Labor and Commerce.
In an effort to better keep our constituents informed about what is happening in the legislature, the Virginia House of Delegates recently acquired a new tool to help us reach more constituents with legislative updates. That is why you are receiving this email!
For those who are new to this newsletter, my team and I work hard to send out a weekly update while the General Assembly is in session and a monthly newsletter throughout the rest of the year.
No matter the time of year, my staff and I are available to assist you!
From navigating state agencies such as the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), the Virginia Unemployment Commission, and the Department of Social Services to developing policy that strengthens our community, my team and I are here for you. If you have any questions or need help, please reach out to my office anytime. You can reach us at delishin@house.virginia.gov or (703) 677-8334.
